I have had my child in this school for two years. All I can say is that i drop off my children in the morning with a sense of relief knowing my child is being well cared for. She has learned so much in two years and I contribute this to her amazing teachers. The assistant director at the Fort Lee location had never left a question unanswered or an issue unresolved. My child is always greeted with a warm smile. Go visit this school. Speak with the assistant director and ask to see the curriculum. You will NOT be disappointed. The school is not cheap but well worth it.
This will be my second child at this school. I feel that children learn best when they are happy to go to school everyday. My children are very happy and that's what counts. I feel they offer the best care and the highest learning experience around. I should know I visited 9 schools before I registered at this one. They are a bit more money but my children deserve it! Don't take anyones word, and go see the school yourself. Some people have written negative reviews and they are entitled to their views on this school. Just visit their website www.greenhouseprek.com and you will learn all about the teachers and their education. They are not prefect but it's a great environment for young children, clean and safe.
After having my child there finish there I can say there a very few great teachers there. These teachers have been teaching for a very long time and it's obvious. However there are many new teachers there which are new to teaching and have yet a lot to learn, they all speak english well enough for a 5 year old to understand. My concern is the lady who runs the ridgefield location which is very cold and almost seems heartless. She has only has a business degree which I think is why it seems as if she could careless about the children there. The owner seems very nice however, I don't believe she has anything to do with what actually goes on inside the classroom since she is only an administrator. I can say that some rooms are over crowded and the children aren't getting the attention they need in those classes. When I observed a class of 24 children it seemed as if half the kids were running doing whatever while on of the teachers was trying to herd them and the main teacher was preforming a puppet show while only about 5 children had her attention. Overall I can say that this didn't sit well with me. If decide to put your child there observe the class they will be in first.
I find the review below to be the opposite of how I felt when I signed. The school was closed during the summer so I had to make an appointment to see and register. My child just had orientation today:) at the school. I must agree with the review below when it comes to the school being clean and organized and the head of the school is very professional (businesswoman). I did not leave with the feeling of my child not having a qualified teacher for this school year. I honestly left feeling like I made a good choice for my child. I have to admit that my child's teacher does speak spanish and does have an accent but I understood every word she said. I feel that the review person below didn't give this school the review it deserves. Everyone has some kind of accent if you listen correctly when people speak. This is going to be a good year for my child, I'm sure. Make the time to visit this preschool, it's a gem!
They're good marketers, not good educators. One of the good things about good schools is that the teachers care about the students' well being. This school seems to have everything but that. They're clean, well organized, and it's clear that the head of the school is a businesswoman. I heard a little about how there was no warmth at the school from some friends of mine before I put my son in. But I was so taken aback by the initial visit I thought my gut was a better judge. There's no happiness at the school! The kids aren't smiling when you look at the classrooms through the glass. The teachers act like they're the best educators in the world but I think it's a show. When I ask them specific questions about what's age appropriate behavior and learning, their answers are sparse. Meaning - they don't know. Someone in the reviews mentioned a language barrier at the school - yes, it does seem like the teachers speak Spanish and the kids are Asian. I don't know if there's anything inherently wrong with this, but yes, the accents are heavy, which I guess could be an issue for a child. I would say talk to other parents before you enroll. They're good marketers, not good educators.
The teachers are not educated. I think I've heard only a couple of their colleges. They work on a tight schedule so they have real issues with talking to parents on an impromptu basis. I put my child in because it was close and clean and they were so nice when I visited. But after a few months it was clear the teachers were not up to par. There are other schools that are better in the area, both expensive and inexpensive. Just do your research before you enroll, that's all.
My child's teacher does speak Spanish and does not have a problem communicating in English. I think the review below must have been written by someone who seems to me is very upset about the fact the she doesn't speak a second language. I love the school. My two kids love their teachers and are very happy to go to school everyday. As for the program it's great! They have a lot of parent involvement and great activities going on all the time. Just visit and see it for yourself. The personal attacks to the teachers and director are so unfair and not true. All you have to do is go onto their website www.greenhouseprek.com and read all about the school, staff and curriculum or visit the school yourself. Elizabeth Morrow and Dwight Englewood are good schools but too big and a lot of money!!! You will get more personal attention and care at this smaller preschool and it's more affordable. But most importantly it's a great school for little kids.
The teachers speak Spanish better than they speak English and the kids speak Korean better than they speak English. If you want your child to learn anything at school and he/she speaks English, it's not probable they'll learn much at this school since language communication is not optimal. The director is nice and professional but not really an educator. The moms drive fancy cars but somehow all the kids end up going to public school after GH. I think for what it charges it's ok, but if you want a really good education you should look at Elizabeth Morrow or Dwight Englewood. If you can't afford those schools, then at least try to find a school where the teachers speak English as a first language. If a child learns mainly through verbal communication, then you need to make sure there's no language barrier. Right now what's happening is that the English speaking children are teaching the Asian children English - which is great - but what does the English speaking child get out of it? Not much. The school presents itself as an elite school, so you really need to have lengthy conversations with the teachers and you'll see how limited their English is.
My daughter just graduated from their Ridgefield location. All in all, my husband and I are happy with the school. They actually have some great teachers who seem to care about their children very much. They seem to care about children's feelings and needs. I have not heard a lot of positive things about the director but I guess she is a business person after all who may be more interested in making as much money as possible. I know they have recently converted a gym into another classroom in the basement which is sad because I think it's good to have a small gym or a place kids can hang out when it's raining. Keep in mind though that really maybe 70% of students are Koreans. If you want more diversity which I think is a great thing, this is not the school for you. Most of the parents I dealt with were a bit stuck up housewives who seemed to be overly protective of their kids. You will see a lot of designer bags and luxury cars there(LOL). Do I recommend the school? Yes I do if you don't mind some of the negative stuff I covered here. Other schools I've visited before sending my daugher is Spring school and Smallworld and didn't like either of them.
My son has been in greenhouse since may 2012. He loves the school and is disappointed when he has breaks in the school since he doesnt get to go to the school. He loves the teachers and his classmates. As parents, we are very happy and satisfied with the school . We highly recommend this school.
There are much better pre-schools in the area. As was stated by a previous reviewer, go look at "Learn and Grow Academy" in Palisades Park. The directors are state certified elementary school teachers that also teach in the classrooms (they don't just sit in the office) and class size is small (10-15 students). It is a family atmosphere and you will feel wonderful leaving your child there. It is a quiet, residential street with no parking or traffic issues (Jones Road is a nightmare). It is also more reasonably priced, they will provide lunch and snacks (for a fee) and you don't feel like you are being nickel dimed every time you turn around. The classrooms at Learn and Grow are truly diverse (Green House is probably about 80% Korean). Most importantly, it is a warm, friendly happy atmosphere. It feels like a family, not like a business.
I for one can say that this is a great school. It seems to me after reading all of negative reviews that a few may have been written by the same person but using a different email. I sounds like you are upset, stop writing and tell the school what is really on your mind and why you find it necessary to write such negative things. I think the owner does a great job and very easy to talk with. After reading your review I went into the school and asked to review all of my child's classroom teacher state certifications and they were all on file. They also were able to view all the other teachers with me. I also asked about the so called overcrowded numbers and the children do go in and out but the numbers in the classroom is within the state guide lines. I love the school. It's clean, the teachers are experienced and young which I think it's a plus for young children and they have a very appropriate early childhood program. I should know I'm a teacher. My child loves it. I guess you just can't please everyone but you should go see the school.
I, along, with many other parents, REMOVED my child from the Green House because I was unhappy with the school. The teachers are not STATE certified (ask them). They are young and inexperienced. The parent with the previous review obviously has no idea what they are talking about. Children are rotated out of the classrooms because the rooms are OVERCROWDED. This has nothing to do with a personal vendetta, these are facts. Read the other negative reviews on this site. They are all consistent. The director is focused only on money and every child is treated like a number. I am very upset with myself for alowinf my child to stay in this school. After experiencing another preschool in the area, I can say quite honestly, go elsewhere!!!
My son's education and quality of it is the most important thing for me as a parent. I'm sure I share this sentiment with all of us that have children. This is why I find a need as a PARENT to refute the negative comment that the teachers at Greenhouse are young, inexperienced and forced to do ANYTHING. My son is going on his second academic year there and I couldn't be happier. The staff and administration are receptive, dedicated and passionate about Education. Yes, some of the teachers are young in age but why is this a negative thing? They're full of energy, patience and love for the students. Yes, children are rotated from the main classroom BUT that's only for them to experience the other amenities that the school has to offer such as gym, the library, music classes and the art room. The fact that your child has been in the school for a month and you're discontent is fair but the fact that you would KEEP them there and instead complain on a website with feedback that quite honestly doesn't contribute ANY other than an obvious personal vendetta. Because Greenhouse is such a wonderful school, parents like me will continue to defend it. Sincerely, BG
It is our mission the develop the "whole child" - in mind and body through the positive experience that he/she will get in our school.
